Laws of Cricket

The Laws of Cricket govern the game.

One of The Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) most important roles, which it has carried out since the Club’s formation in 1787, is its custodianship of the Laws of Cricket.

Although the International Cricket Council is the global Governing Body for cricket, it still relies on the MCC to write and interpret the Laws of Cricket, which are applicable from the village green to the Test arena. MCC’s Laws sub-committee are responsible for the debating, decision making and drafting of the Laws.

In 2017, MCC published a new Code of Laws, which incorporated the most wide-ranging alterations to the Laws of Cricket for almost two decades. This code has now been updated three times, with the third edition to coming into effect on 1 October 2022, and adopted for the 2022-23 summer.
