Umpiring is open to people of all genders, backgrounds, and life stages.

NSWCUSA members include students, professionals, parents, and retirees - some are looking to stay connected to a game they love, some are looking to stay active, give back to their community, earn extra income, or looking to do something whilst their children play.

Umpires are an integral part of the game, ensuring fairness, safety, and excitement for all involved. Umpiring cricket also helps to develop essential skills including leadership, sharp decision-making, effective communication, and adaptability. Whatever your reason, if you’re interested in being part of the game and contributing to cricket in NSW, there’s a place for you umpiring anywhere across New South Wales.

There are a number of options for you to gain an accreditation to umpire, or to simply gain some extra knowledge about Australia's favourite sport:

CA Community Officiating – (Level 1 CA Accreditation)

Ideal for junior cricket - in collaboration with Cricket Australia and CNSW

Comprising of two parts; an online component and a workshop - available through Cricket Australia e-learning, the online component takes around an hour to complete, whilst the workshops take approximately three hours and cover 19 key laws of cricket.

The workshops are held often throughout the calendar year both in-person around New South Wales and online via Zoom. The accreditation costs $40 to access, but is free for female participants.

*A Working With Children Check is not applicable to any parent acting as an Umpire in a match in which their child or children are participating.

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the application of each of the 42 Laws of Cricket and a successful completion of the accompanying assessment provides an accreditation that is appropriate for senior cricket, including NSW Premier Cricket, and an invitation to join NSWCUSA.

These courses are run frequently in a number of formats:

  • Over five weeknights (available both via Zoom and in-person)

  • Over a weekend

  • Over a single day

The cost for prospective members to attend varies depending on the format, but the course is free for existing NSWCUSA members and prospective female umpires.

The course is suitable for aspiring umpires, team captains and players, club officials, coaches and team managers.
