Cricket Australia today extends its sincere thanks to Paul Wilson for his exceptional contribution to Australian cricket across more than three decades, as he concludes his role as Match Officials Selector and Appointments.

 

A highly respected figure within the game, Blocker finishes up today having made a lasting impact on the Match Officials program and the broader cricket community. His dedication, professionalism, and passion have been instrumental in shaping the standard and success of umpiring in Australia.

 

Blocker’s cricket journey has been both distinguished and diverse. Following an accomplished playing career that saw him represent Australia in both Test and One Day International cricket, he transitioned seamlessly into umpiring. In that role, he officiated at the highest level of the game, standing in eight Test matches, 36 One Day Internationals and 26 T20 Internationals.

 

Cricket Australia Match Officials Manager Luke O’Brien paid tribute to Wilson’s contribution, “Blocker has made an outstanding contribution to Australian cricket over many years, both as a player, coach and as a match official. His experience, knowledge and commitment have had a lasting impact on our officiating group. He has been a valued member of the Match Officials family, and his influence will continue to be felt well into the future. On behalf of everyone at Cricket Australia, we thank Blocker for his tremendous service and wish him all the very best in his next chapter.”

 

While stepping away from his domestic appointment responsibilities, Blocker will remain actively involved in the global game. He is set to continue umpiring in leading franchise competitions, including Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States and the ILT20, ensuring his expertise remains part of the international cricket landscape.

 

Blocker’s legacy within Australian cricket is significant, and he will always remain a valued member of the Australian Match Officials family.

 

Cricket Australia thanks Paul Wilson for his remarkable contribution and wishes him continued success in his ongoing umpiring career.

 

Cricket Australia will shortly commence a recruitment process to find a replacement.
